The Australian Department of Home Affairs has just announced the introduction of a new Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List (PMSOL). The objective of this new list is to incentivise the immigration of individuals with a certain skillset by offering exemption from the international travel ban.
The decision was made considering lack of highly skilled and specialised workers in certain sectors of the Australian economy. By directing skilled migrants to struggling sections of the economy, the Federal and State governments expect an increase in efficiency and output. This is turn is meant to alleviate the current economic downturn the country is experiencing.
The PMSOL contains following 17 professions drawn from the health, constructions, and IT sector and include the following:
Offshore visa holders, who have been sponsored by an eligible Australia business in any of the PMSOL occupations will be able to apply for a travel exemption to travel to Australia whilst border restrictions are still in place.
