The Top Reasons Visa Applications Are Refused

Stop Sign

Australia has very strict laws and policies in place when it comes to approving visa applications. In the last migration year alone (2017-18), refusals went up by 46.2%. With the permanent migration intake lowering by 30,000, there is likely to be even
more refusals this migration year. Below we list the top reasons why the Department of Home Affairs refuse visa applications.

Insufficient Documents

Meeting all the visa requirements is just one step towards securing a visa. The next step is providing enough evidence to assure the Department that you meet these requirements. A lot of times where applicants go wrong is not providing enough documents,
or not providing documents of quality, for their visa application. To avoid this, ensure you go through the document checklist the Department provides to double check you have uploaded all the correct documents before you submit. Additionally, sometimes
the Department requests more information whilst processing your visa. This request is usually for more documents; you must respond to them within the time frame they provide or your visa is subject to refusal. Another way to avoid this mistake is
to hire a migration agent to have a look over your application before submitting it. Migration agents have submitted hundreds of applications before so they know exactly what documents the Department is looking for.

Applying for the Wrong Subclass Visa

An applicant applying for an unsuitable visa happens more often than you may think. There are over 100 different subclasses of visas so it is definitely not hard to choose the wrong one. To avoid making this mistake, go over each visa subclass that may
be applicable to you and check all the eligibility requirements. Another way to find out what visa is most suited to you is to get an assessment from a migration agent. Migration agents often have years of experience with the immigration system and
can tell you which visa would be best suited to your specific situation.

Failing the Health Requirement

The Australian visa health requirement is an absolute must to pass. Unfortunately this means a lot of applicants with prior health conditions get their visa refused. The reason the government has this requirement in place is so migrants do not become
a burden on the Australian health system by taking the resources of Australian citizens. As harsh as this may seem, it is requirement that migrants pass a health examination with HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Hepatitis being the top conditions that
are tested for. In very special and limited circumstances a health waiver may be given by the Australian government, but it is best to engage a specialised immigration lawyer to apply for the health waiver as they know when a health waiver may be
available and it will also better your chances of success.

Lack of Funds

When moving to Australia, the Department needs to make sure you have sufficient funds to support yourself. Quite a few visas have an income or financial asset requirement that you have to meet. So when you’re ready to migrate to Australia make sure
you have a lot saved and so you do meet the financial requirement.

Wallet Full of Money

Hopefully these tips help you avoid a visa refusal. A visa refusal will go on your immigration record and may deter the Department from granting you another visa – so it is paramount that you get it right on the first try. However, if you have already
received a visa refusal all hope is not lost – you may be eligible to appeal at the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT). If you are going to the AAT it’s a good idea to get an immigration lawyer to represent your case to give you the
best chances of success. At No Borders our team are immigration lawyers as well as migration agents and have a wealth of experience with AAT hearings. To book a meeting with our lawyers for   Partner visa Australia , Partner Visa 309, Partner visa 820,  ENS Work Visa  or
