State Nominations Opening for Business Visa and Skilled Visa

Business and Skilled program is NOW OPEN for State Nomination.

A narrow window to lodge your Expression of Interest (EOI) in Queensland

After more than 6 months, Business and Skilled Migration Queenslandis opening its door for select applicants for a very limited time. The state is only considering new EOIs and all of your supporting documents must be uploaded within 24 hours of lodging your expression.

Note: Business and Skilled Migration Queensland (BSMQ) closes on 5 October 2020.

Business Program

The State places particular focus on job retention and creation, therefore an EOI for a business will only be accepted if the business is able to demonstrate:

  1. high-quality applications which are related to the COVID-19 pandemic economic recover; or
  2. businesses which focus on productive investment and job creation; or
  3. Businesses that have a regional investment focus within the business program.

Additionally, certain visa subclasses receive priority processing, such visas include:

  1. subclass 132 – Significant Business History stream;
  2. subclass 188 – Business Innovation stream;
  3. subclass 188 – Significant Investor stream;
  4. subclass 188 – Entrepreneur stream.

It is important to note that both onshore and offshore applicants are accepted. Accordingly, applicants do not have to be in Australia at the moment to be eligible for the above business visas.

Skilled Program

While Queensland offers limited nominations for individual skilled migrants, those who are directly involved in the COVID-19 pandemic response may be eligible if you are current employed in:

  1. medical services; or
  2. the maintenance of the supply of essential goods and services; or
  3. delivering services in sectors critical to Australia’s economic recovery.

Priority processing is available for is available for certain visa subclasses, for instance:

  1. subclass 491 (small business owners’ application);
  2. subclass 190 for individuals who have bene employed in their nominated position for at least 6 months and received a job offer or written assurance from the employer for the next 12 months.

For the skilled migration program, applicants must be residing and working in Queensland at the time of application. Further, individuals must have all required documents ready to be provided with the application. These include, but are not limited to:

  1. Positive skills assessment;
  2. Proof of English proficiency (ILETS/TOEFL/PTE/Cambridge);
  3. Most current resume;
  4. Current employment contract;
  5. Payslips to prove minimum 6 months employment in the nominated occupation;
  6. Job offer from employer for continued employment for the next 12 months.

Those who do not currently have a positive skills assessment from their respective assessing body are unlikely to meet this narrow window to lodge their EOI. Nonetheless, it is likely that we will see state nominations open more frequently in the near future. Therefore, we strongly recommend you engage a migration agent who will assist you in obtaining a positive skills assessment.
