South Australian Skilled visa program details

If you’re planning to live and work in Australia, you need to know something about the South Australian skilled visa program. This program allows you to live and work in South Australia. However, just like any other visa class, you must meet certain requirements to qualify for it. While it may not be as complicated as a partner visa, you could still get refusal if you don’t meet the set requirements.

The good news is that there several visa subclasses under this category. So, you can always apply for one you think would suit your work migration purposes.

Let’s take a look at the visa subclasses under this category.

Skilled Nominated permanent subclass 190

With this visa, applicants get permission to permanently live and work in South Australia. The applicant receives additional points from the state nomination of South Australia to help them qualify for a visa under the Department of Home Affairs point test.

Benefits of having this visa include:

  • Working and studying anywhere in Australia
  • One can sponsor eligible relatives for permanent residence
  • If you’re eligible, you can become a permanent citizen of Australia

To be eligible for this visa, an applicant must meet the following requirements.

You must be invited to Apply

One can only apply for this visa if they’ve been invited to. First, you submit an expression of interest to notify the Department Of Home Affairs that you’d like to apply for the visa. After this, you might be nominated by the state or territory government. You’ll only be invited if you’re nominated.

Different state and government agencies have their own way of nominating individuals for this visa. You can always reach out to the state or territory agency directly to get more information about their nomination process.

Must Have Relevant Skills Assessment

An applicant must declare that they’ve got the right skills assessment at the time of invitation. During your application, you’ll be required to provide a copy of this skills assessment.

For those in the medical or legal fraternity, the following documents are also acceptable:

  • Full or unconditional or general medical registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency
  • Conditional specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, which permits you to practice law in a given state or territory without further training or supervision
  • Admission to practice law in a given state or territory

In addition to this, your skills assessment should have been obtained 3 years before the date of your invitation. In case the assessment was for a shorter period, the period must not have passed. In case your skills assessment is based on the qualification you obtained while on a student visa, the qualification should be from a course registered on CRICOS.

Age Limit

An applicant must be below 45 years by the time they’re invited to apply for this visa. One can still apply for the visa in case they turn 45 after the invitation. However, if you turn 45 after submitting an expression of interest but before you get an invitation to apply, you’ll not be invited to apply.

Must Score 65 Points And Above

In case you’re not aware, the subclass 190 is a point-tested visa. As soon as an applicant submits their expression of interest (EOI), they’ll get an indicative point score based on the claims they’ve made. If one gets a score below 65, they won’t get an invitation to apply. However, sometimes the score may be higher than 65, depending on one’s claims in the EOI. At the beginning of the application process, an applicant must provide sufficient evidence to support their claims.

Level Of English Language

At the time of the invitation, an applicant must have at least competent English.

For one to qualify for this visa, their occupation should be on the relevant list of eligible skilled occupation for the 190 Skilled Nominated visa.

That’s all you need to know about the Skilled Nominated permanent subclass 190.

Skilled Work Regional (provisional) subclass 491

This is a temporary visa that allows one to live and work in Australia for at most 5. Usually, to help applicants qualify for the visa, the state nomination from South Australia offers an additional 15 points.

Those who live and work in Australia on this visa for three years and meet the minimum taxable income within this period may qualify for permanent residency through the Skilled Nominated permanent subclass 190. Eligibility requirements for this visa are the same as those of subclass 190.
