Victoria’s Skilled Migration Program for 2021-22 opens to new Registrations of Interest (ROIs) on 7 July 2021.
The Department of Home Affairs has provided Victoria with 3,500 subclass 190 places, and 500 subclass 491 places.
This year we will be selecting candidates who are currently living and working in Victoria, using their STEMM skills in a target sector.
7 Key Target Sector in Victoria Skilled Visa Program
To be selected to apply for skilled visa nomination, you must be currently working in one of our target sectors using your STEMM skills.
- Health
- Medical research
- Life sciences
- Digital
- Agri-food
- Advanced manufacturing
- New energy, emissions reduction and circular economy
Note:
If you are seeking subclass 190 nomination and working in the digital sector, please note that we are currently only selecting candidates working with cyber security skills or digital game engineers, with specialisation in coding, art direction, AI or physics programming.
However, if you are using digital skills in a different target sector (e.g. software developer working in health), you may also be selected.
Applicants using their STEMM skills in a business precinct will be highly regarded.
The major changes to the 2021-22 program are:
- The removal of the minimum experience and hours worked requirement.
- An increase in the number of target sectors.
- Applicants must have STEMM skills and have a Skill Level 1 or 2 occupation.
Note:
Applicants for subclass 491 nomination may also have a Skill Level 3 occupation using their STEMM skills.
If you submitted a ROI for the 2020-21 program and were not selected, you must submit a new ROI in 2021-22.
Workforce Skills Pathway in Victoria
The State Government of Victoria has established a pathway for highly skilled cooks, chefs and early childhood educators to assist the industry address labour shortages caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

How to apply under a Workforce Skills Pathway?
Eligibility
You must be eligible under either the subclass 190 or subclass 491 Victorian visa nomination criteria, and be living and working in Victoria as a cook, chef or early childhood educator.
- Ensure you are eligible under the Workforce Skills Pathway.
- When submitting your Registration of Interest, respond yes to ‘Are you applying under a Workforce Skills Pathway?’
- Select the appropriate pathway.
- Complete the rest of your Registration of Interest and submit.
- If selected to apply for Victorian visa nomination, complete the relevant nomination application.
