Did you know that the Migration Queensland Program for 2022-2023 financial year open on 16 August 2022?
Periodically, Migration Queensland (the Queensland State Government agency responsible for business and skilled visa nomination) nominates for a range of skilled and business visas, including the Subclass 190 – Skilled Nominated (Permanent) visa, the Subclass 491 – Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa and the Subclass 188 – Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) visa. The Subclass 190 visa is a permanent nominated visa while the Subclass 491 visa is a five-year provisional state nominated visa with a permanent residency pathway. The business visa, Subclass 188, is a state-nominated five-year provisional visa leading to a permanent residency pathway to the Subclass 888 – Business Innovation and Investment (Permanent) visa.
The Program is open to both onshore and offshore applicants and will only accept a brand-new Expression of Interest (EOI) submitted on Skillselect starting 16 August 2022. Once the nomination allocations (quotas) are met, the Program closes to new applications.
What is new for FY2022-23 Migration Queensland Program?
- Queensland has released its own selected occupation list, the ‘2022–23 Queensland Skilled Occupation List (QSOL)’
- QSOL is for offshore applicants and skilled workers living offshore only
- QSOL is designed to fill the critical skills shortages across the state of Queensland
- QSOL is subject to change, as once the occupation has reached its quota, it may be removed from the list
- QSOL is relevant to Subclass 190 and Subclass 491 visa applicants only
What does this mean for you as an offshore applicant?
If you are outside Australia and would like to live and work here in Queensland and your occupation is in QSOL, now is the perfect time to submit your EOI and choose Queensland as your preferred nominating state. If your EOI is accepted, you will receive an invitation from Migration Queensland to lodge your nomination application. Once you are nominated by the State of Queensland, you will then receive an invitation from Department of Home Affairs to lodge a visa application within 60 days of your nomination. As simple as it sounds though, the EOI stage is very competitive and is the crucial part of the process. Although you, as an applicant, is only required to have a minimum of 65 points to submit an EOI, the applicants who have scored higher will be given priority to be invited.
How could you gain extra points?
One is by obtaining a higher English test score, which gives you extra 10 points (proficient English: 10 points vs Superior English: 20 points) or by obtaining a community language credential, which gives you extra 5 points.
Is your occupation included in the 2022–23 Queensland Skilled Occupation List (QSOL)?
The occupations listed in QSOL is quite extensive and includes both professional and trade occupations such as medical professionals, managerial positions, engineering roles, cooks and chefs, bakers, hairdressers, carpenters, welders, and fitters to name a few.
