2021 Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List (PMSOL)

The Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List (PMSOL) contains 19 occupations in the health care, construction, and IT sectors and aims to support Australia’s economic recovery from COVID-19 by allowing small numbers of sponsored skilled workers to return to Australia to fill urgent skills needs in critical sectors. PMSOL is based on the recommendations of the National Skills Commission and is regularly reviewed. It is temporary and the priority occupations will change as the economic recovery of Australia progresses.

 

Changes to the PMSOL

11 May 2021 – The occupation of Veterinarian (234711) has been added to the PMSOL.

27 November 2020 – Based on advice from the National Skills Commission, the occupation of Social Worker (272511) has been added to the PMSOL

2 September 2020 – PMSOL of 17 occupations announced.

Visa subclasseswith PMSOL 

Priority processing of nomination and visa applications for PMSOL occupations applies to these employer sponsored visa subclasses:

•    Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa (subclass 482)

•    Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 494)

•    Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) visa (subclass 186)

•    Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) visa (subclass 187)

 

Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa (subclass 482)

The Temporary Skill Shortage Visa allows an employer to sponsor a skilled worker to fill a position when they are unable to find a suitable Australia. There are three streams for the subclass 482 visa. The short-term stream allows the applicant to stay for up to two years. The medium-term and labour agreement streams both allow for the applicant to remain in Australia for up to four years.

 

Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 494)

The Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional visa is aimed at regional employers. It allows them to hire skilled workers to address labour shortages in their region. The Employer Sponsored stream allows the visa holder to stay in Australia for 5 years. While on the subclass 494 visa, the visa holder does need to live, work and study in designated regional areas. You may be eligible to apply for permanent residence from 3 years after the date of your 494 visa grant.

 

Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) visa (subclass 186)

The subclass 186 visa allows skilled workers to live and work in Australia permanently. The applicant needs to be nominated by an employer. There are three streams for this visa; the direct entry stream, the labour agreement stream for when your employer is a party to a labour agreement, and the temporary residence transition scheme.

 

Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) visa (Subclass 187)

The Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme allows skilled workers to live and work in Australia permanently. The applicant needs to be nominated by their regional employer. They usually need to have previously held a subclass 457 or 482 visa and have worked for their employer full-time for at least three years. This visa grants permanent residency. The direct entry stream is no longer open for applications.

 

These visa are great options for those living and working in central and regional areas of Australia and all provide a great pathway option to permanent residence in Australia.
